pnpm 8 requires Node ≥ 16.14.0; Node.js 22 satisfies this. pnpm 8 introduced stricter lockfile format (lockfileVersion 6.0) and made `shamefully-hoist: false` the default. Projects relying on hoisted dependencies may need to declare them explicitly. pnpm 9 is the current major — upgrade with `npm install -g pnpm@latest`.
